Gavin Ekstrom serves as the senior area manager for the Denver, Colorado, branch of Citywide Home Loans. Outside of his responsibilities at work, he supports the Boys & Girls Clubs of America, which offer a wide variety of specialized programs for youth, such as Youth for Unity.
Youth for Unity employs a comprehensive set of intervention strategies to encourage social diversity and combat instances of discrimination, bigotry, and prejudice. Designed for parents, teenagers, and children ages 6 to 12, the program offers an assortment of activities that help youth simultaneously build self-confidence and develop an accepting attitude toward others. The program strives to instill youth participants with a sense of appreciation of themselves as unique individuals as well as an understanding of social diversity. In addition, it aims to help youth recognize social bias and provide them with the necessary skills to confront it and push for change.
