Michael Bower's profile

Jurassic Park logo desktop wallpaper

I am a big fan of Chip Kidd's cover art for Michael Crichton's Jurassic Park novel. The 1993 film was a huge inspiration for me to pursue a career in graphic design, most notably due to Mark “Crash” McCreery's beautiful preproduction dinosaur illustrations. With the upcoming release of Jurassic World, I searched the Internet for a nice JP desktop wallpaper but came up empty-handed. As such, I decided to make my own and share it with others.
It doesn't appear that the real Jurassic Park symbol has leaked online. There are some inferior quality vectors available here and there, but I found them to be terrible live-traced versions or the like. I was able to find high quality raster scans of the original mark from merchandise, so I decided it would be easier if I just recreated a cleaned up vector version myself. Above is my vector recreation in outline view. Each element was placed on its own layer to make Photoshop editing simpler.
My vector illustration of the Jurassic Park symbol and logotype in the full-color view.
Once imported into Photoshop, I applied textures, shadows, bevels, and lighting effects to create a more rugged and worn metallic look to the JP lockup. All the FX were created and/or applied with Photoshop without the use of any 3rd party plugins. Once the image was textured, a handful of small lens flares and lightning effects were done with LensFlare Studio.

The final, high-res version of the wallpaper is available to download here. It is optimized for the 15" Apple MacBook Pro with Retina Display.
