This project was a collaboration with the Gaelic community of Nova Scotia, Canada. Specifically Cape Breton.
The posters focus on Gaelic youth, Gaelic Proverbs, and Gaelic Song.
This poster is for Gaelic youth in Nova Scotia. There were some students in Cape Breton who wrote an open letter to the school board asking for fluent Gaelic speakers t teach them Gaelic. In the letter they expressed several aspects of Gaelic culture they wish to be respected. These make up the stems of the dandelion seeds, which symbolize the wishes they have for the growth of their culture.
This one features a Gaelic proverb. One that fairly well known and cheesy. However it lent well to humor which is something important in Gaelic culture as well. So I went with two doors tied together so that one can literally not close without opening the other.
This last one is based off a Gaelic song. There were several lines in the song that struck me as interesting, however this one conjured up the most compelling imagery to me. It also plays on the fact of blue eyes being a big thing in Gaelic history of apreciating beauty.
