Typography Exercise: Contents Page

Brief: Take the ‘contents page’ text, read and edit it, and then produce a minimum of 3 contents spreads.

You are limited to using only one colour (you may use % tints of that colour) and only one typeface, but you may use a number of fonts within that family. We would like you to stick to one of these formats: A4 or 210mm x 210mm. Whilst you may use abstract geometric shapes including rules, dots, circles, etc, you may not use photographic or illustrative imagery. Your design needs to succeed purely on the basis of its typographic integrity.
The raw text you will been given is deliberately quite complex, with a wide-range of levels of informational hierarchy. Your job is not only to make the message clear and understandable, but to make it visually exciting. Typographic hierarchy is of utmost importance, as is visually organising the information using appropriate grids and guides.
We were asked to inclued the Spec for each of our designs.

You can see from the Spec how I have used grid to layout my text. As well as this the specification shows the considerations given to typeface and point size, and particularly the relationship between pointsizes.
