In my series of collages, I seek to explore the effect of societal beauty standards on feminine self-perception and self-esteem.
Media, self-comparison, and pressure to conform to what is considered 'perfect'—these three concepts are what I consider to be huge contributors to negative self-esteem. Through the juxtaposition of black and white against saturated areas, I highlight the standards we try so hard to adhere to versus a monochrome reality.
As viewers engage with these pieces, I invite them to reflect on their own relationship with societal expectations and consider how it may be similar to or different from my own.
