"Self-Revisions" (short story / poetry)

My response to an Atlanta Writers Club 50-word story prompt ("light").

"Self-Revisions"

Too big to date. Apply scalpel until lovable.
Too heavy for that role. Initiate starvation until palatable.
Fatigue, self-loathing, anxiety, mutilation, and depression
are always worth being able to belong to everyone else.
From birth, all the messages whisper that the key to a full life is a light casket.
