Justified Paragraphs & Type Color

Exercise 5: Justified Paragraphs & Type Color
In this project I worked on typesetting justified paragraphs and type color. Type color is an element of typography that describes how dense or heavy the text appears on the page. This was a three-part project. Part one focuses on making individual 10" x 10" pages in InDesign. This part of the process aimed at the manipulation of the paragraphs to make them light or bold in contrast to the white background. I would manipulate the paragraphs by adjusting the font, font size, changing type to italics, changing the letterspacing and more.
When working on part one I noticed I started to justify my paragraphs incorrectly. I was doing everything correctly with changing the font size, letter spacing, etc., but I realized on some of my paragraphs I was also adjusting the glyph size. I left them in my original process, but I didn't include any in my part two page or final compositions. This part of the project wasn't too hard just very repetitive. And I do need to work a little more on justifying the paragraphs more into depth.
Part two was to insert my many paragraphs onto a 120" x 45" page. I would have to order them from the boldest to lightest in type color.
This part of the project felt like a puzzle. Trying to figure out what paragraphs go where on the artboard. It was tricky with the lighter type colored paragraphs because its challenging to determine which was more light. I do also notice there are small rivers in some of my paragraphs that I need to work out.
Part three was to create four different compositions with the variety of paragraphs I used in the previous part. Each 10" x 10" composition needs five different paragraphs.
The feedback I received on this project was mixed. I felt that my final outcome was average, and I will agree with my professor that some of the final compositions don't have much varying contrast. But overall, I believe I did fairly well on this project. I just need to focus more on the development in the beginning with justifying paragraphs so I can have a grander variety to work with.
