POST POPART : Wally, Waldo, Walter

Martin Handford's "Finding Wally." reinterpret

This is a picture I drew when I was feeling skeptical about doing things with my hands, and when I thought that I wouldn't be able to find "me" anywhere in this world, I thought of Wally, whom I had loved since childhood. I, who had been happy to find Wally hiding in various guises in various countries, now felt like Wally had been thrown out into the world. I had a lot of worries about what kind of person I am now and what I should do, and my twisted arms and distorted facial expression with no intelligible emotions can be seen as a reflection of who I was back then.

< Wally, Waldo, Walter > series for exhibition

In December 2022, he was selected as a notable illustrator at the Seoul Design Festival and held an exhibition. This was my first exhibition of my own work, so I thought a lot, drew a lot, and paid a lot of attention to preparation. Originally, I had planned to finish with just one painting, Wally, but with the help of those around me, I was able to exhibit it and began a series of paintings satirizing reality in various forms. In this process, I drew not only Wally but also other major characters from children's books.
