The Thirst Traps series portray nude or semi-nude, often faceless selfies shared as messages, posts, or vanishing stories on various social media applications. Thirst trap is an internet slang given to the growing phenomenon of uploading an enticing, often salacious photo on social media as ‘bait’. The visuals replicate the layout of Instagram or Grindr and narrate how and what kind of interest these posts elicit.
The series observes how established this trend is, especially in queer digital culture, and displays how users appropriate various application features and emojis as tools to censor, solicit, compliment, and conduct entire conversations without using the written word.
