Keratoma [kɛrəˈtəʊmə]: An area of hardened skin, usually called a callus which is usually a response to trauma to the skin.

Sometimes you need to grow thick scales and rough skin to withstand the winds and fires that are thrown your way. This piece was the first I’ve started in March 2020, when the pandemic hit. It was my mechanism to build in thick scales and remember how to breathe through the anxieties of change. The scales are now grown and I call this piece ‘Keratoma’.
