Legal Studies textbook - Book design

Book design
Legal Studies U1&2 and Legal Studies U3&4 textbooks
In line with the new curriculum, I was the Template Designer for the Legal Studies books. The template was complex, responding to the specific needs of this subject.

Brief: Design a textbook that is engaging and can make a serious subject feel exciting.
Inspiration: memorable protests using an identifiable colour (eg. Yellow Umbrella in HK, Red Brigade in UK, Yellow Vest in France, Blue Revolution in Kuwait, and Purple Revolution in Mexico) were used as an inspiration for choosing the colour palette.
Following the brief and the inspiration, I developed the design value that guided the visual style throughout the two books.

Design value: Empowered citizens, effecting change.
Each unit uses one of its corresponding primary colour (a shade of blue). As a cool colour, blue was used across all units to promote a calm space, encouraging learning.
The accent colour (shades of yellow and grey for Theory is carried across all units. The accent yellow is used to emphasise elements that sit high in the visual hierarchy of the page.

The primary colours, as well as imagery and graphics used for the Unit Intros can be found on the cover of the books, keeping a consistent visual language across both books.
