School Project - Gmail UX Improvement

Note: The low fidelity and high fidelity prototypes are shown below. The user research, and analysis are not shown, but can be found on kieranchai.com (when I finally get around to updating my website)

Gmail has always been the most popular email service in the world, but it is not hard to find complaints about its lack of intuitiveness and ease of navigation. This is ironic as Google’s own mission and vision statements pride themselves as making information accessible and concentrating on user experience, but in reality, many feel that they are doing the exact opposite.

Thus, this project aims to find out why Gmail's user experience is so poor among users, as well as how it can be improved.

Main improvements:
- Removed redundancies (Auto-sorted categories)
- Improved visual salience (Icons -> Text)
- Improved consistency
- Improved label creation/deletion flow
- Simplified Inbox/Emails definition for multiple accounts
- Added Google Calendar view
