nhow Frankfurt: LARGE MURALS FOR RESTAURANT

nhow is an international hotel chain belonging to NH Hotel Group based on a disruptive concept in which each hotel is in itself a unique work of Art, with an architecture and interior design with the utmost attention to detail combined with an innovative design based on large-scale murals that give its spaces an atmosphere in which creativity and inspiration flow on every wall.

nhow Frankfurt Hotel

nhow Franfurt is a four-star hotel located in Frankfurt, Germany. The building has been designed by the Rafael De La Hoz studio.

As an artist contracted by NH Hotel Group, I have created large murals for the hotel’s rooms, restaurant and NFT Sky Bar.

THE ART OF MONEY
The concept around which all the visual work for the hotel “The Art of Money” revolves had many possible interpretations or visions, from the most vindictive to the most artistic and funniest. nhow hotels are characterised by the irreverent and daring visual pieces that dress their walls, rooms and floors, and, starting from this perspective, I wanted to develop the concept of money through works that distilled a great symbolism and that could show a message to whoever stopped to observe them carefully.

The excesses and consequences of how the concept of money and capitalism as a system transform our society are the starting point of a daring and rebellious artistic proposal that tries to show itself in a colourful, cheerful and carefree tone inspired by urban art and pop art. Each room in the hotel has its own concept, style and character, but all of them are pieces of a puzzle that conceptually expresses the past, present and future of money.

 RESTAURANT
The Art of Banknotes
Due to the idiosyncrasy of the area of the hotel restaurant where the murals are to be located, a very long wall periodically punctuated by small interruptions in the form of vertical architectural barriers, the challenge in composing a set of visual pieces that could be understood both as a whole and individually was enormous. The starting concept for this area of the hotel was directly linked to the soul of the project, the theme “The Art of Money” cannot be understood without appealing to the closest aspect of visual creation: the design of paper money or, as it is commonly called, banknotes.

Paper money has been and continues to be the most global window of opportunity for artistic creation, as banknote designs become known to each and every layer of a country’s population.

Banknote designs have brought society closer to historical figures, politicians, intellectuals, etc… their illustrations, brimming with colour and detail, form a link between societies and their iconic figures. From this inspiration, I have imagined what the design of the banknotes of an eventual “Nhow Central Bank” would look like, belonging to the utopian country of “nhowland”.

Each mural in this space features a unique banknote design. The nhow brand is characterised by breaking with rules and monotony, fleeing from repetition and copying. In line with this philosophy, I designed a series of original banknotes that had nothing in common with each other, independent pieces that exuded their own magic.
These banknotes, as well as showing a unique artistic work in each one, include all the details associated with real banknotes (magnetic strip, serial numbers, signature of the head of the central bank, etc…).

Banknote designs
Due to the architectural barriers of the room (a series of fixed tables are placed in front of the murals), the actual photographs of these pieces only partially show them. I have added the original design of each note to give a more complete view of the project.
