Who I am?
My name is Florian Fabian. I was born in 1993 and grew up in the southern part of Thuringia. After studying biology in Kiel and Leipzig, I moved to Saxony-Anhalt with my wife, near Magdeburg. Here, we live in a small village along the Elbe River and together we manage her family's farm.

Since 2019, I've been working in an ecological planning office. I'm primarily responsible for fauna surveys, which means I travel extensively in Saxony-Anhalt and the surrounding states.

Even though I deal with animals every day, I find it consistently fascinating and impressive to observe the stork nesting on our barn, the stealthy hedgehog sneaking around for cat food, or the tree frog climbing the apple tree.
My photography
Since childhood, I've had a certain passion for collecting: stones, seashells, coins, and stamps. Perhaps this quality is the reason why I became a field biologist.

With my first digital camera, I was able to document my first animals or rare plants, collect them, and bring them into my childhood room. Over time, my demands for my pictures grew, and consequently, so did my camera equipment. Nowadays, I mainly work with Canon cameras and focal lengths ranging from 14 to 400 mm. When I look into my backpack, I can't deny that over the years, I might have developed a slight fondness for technology.
Although technology is not an insignificant factor, the image still originates behind the viewfinder. Similar to biology, I don't want to confine myself to a specific area with my photos, so I photograph in nature whatever currently interests me. I mostly search for my subjects close to home. The resulting images can sometimes be documentary, but other times more abstract, reflecting how I perceive my subjects.
