AR Experience: Drunk Munchies

ADOBE AERO AR EXPERIENCE:
DRUNK MUNCHIES
BRIEF
This project required me to create an augmented reality experience on any topic for a specific target audience. I developed a sticker that allows users to scan and enter the interactive experience on their phones.

CHALLENGE
After a night out, there's nothing college students love more than food. I chose to create a sticker that provides students with options to ensure an enjoyable night: information about available food, their hours, delivery options, and fan favorites. My target audience is college students after a night out. The experience includes fun graphics that can be entertaining while helping them decide on a late-night snack.

STICKER DESIGN
For my sticker, I chose to base the graphics on various styles of 70s stickers. This includes muted colors from the rainbow, fun and flowy fonts, and a hand-drawn aspect. I wanted to have fun with this design, given that the topic is not serious.

LOCATION
For the placement of the sticker, I decided to place it outside the bars. There is a bulletin board for posters and advertisements, which seemed like the perfect spot for the sticker. As people leave the bar and try to decide what they want to eat, they usually gather around this bulletin board. The sticker is bold and bright, which would make it stand out and compel someone to interact with it.

AR EXPERIENCE WALKTHROUGH

SCREEN CAPTURES
The screen captures show different still images of the AR experience. In these screen captures, there are close-ups of the information in the text boxes paired with the graphics. Additionally, there is a full view of the entire AR experience from a distance.

RESEARCH
My research was based on 70s stickers and graphics. I drew inspiration from the drawn, kid-like stickers that were prevalent in the 70s. A recurring theme in 70s stickers is food and objects with funky faces on them. I believed this tied in perfectly with the "munchies" theme.
While not explicitly shown, I also conducted research on the four restaurants featured in my AR experience. I aimed to ensure I gathered information about their hours, fan favorites, and the various options available for online ordering. With this research, my goal was to help the viewer eliminate one Google search and know exactly where to place their order.

SKETCHES
In my initial sketches, I had nearly finalized the sticker design. The storyboard also maintained the same premise, but the graphics were adjusted to accommodate the AR experience. I aimed to incorporate some interaction with the viewer before they received the information.

PROTOTYPING
The prototyping step was the most significant determining factor in identifying the designs/triggers that worked best. Initially, I used filler images to get a general idea of how the AR experience would run, which greatly helped me in the end. I would then replace the files as I finalized the designs. Below is a video of my first prototype:

REFLECTION
Overall, I enjoyed learning a new Adobe program. Despite encountering a few mix-ups with sizing and audio, the experience was enjoyable and educational. Witnessing my graphics in an AR environment made the entire process very rewarding.
