Mail Me Art IV - Celestial Convergence

This is an illustration I created for Darren Di Lieto's Mail Me Art: Open All Hours show + book.

Last year I was honoured to taken part in Mail Me Art: Short & Sweet and I was quite excited to get to work on my piece for the 4th installment of this mail art exhibition project. I chose to go with a sun and moon motif, inspired by a personal project I'm working on,  to connect to the concept of continuity I inferred from the show's theme.

And here's what I ended up creating.
"Celestial Convergence"

Approximate dimensions: 6 x 6 inches (14.8 x 14.8cm)
Media: Gouache + ink pen + gold acrylic paint
And here are some process images of how this piece came together:
Pencil sketch
The ink work
Digital colour study
Additional colour studies
Gouache base colouring
Stippling with an ink pen
Final result - finished off with gold acrylic paint and white paint stiplling
And here are some photos to demonstrate how the gold paint catches the light and the gouache paint changes colour depending on the light.
Below is a digital (vector based) variation I created for my personal enjoyment.
