It is without doubt that music has a clear strong influence on our society. It has become one of the ways a person can express themselves and has the ability to connect and strengthen relationships.

However, there is a huge lack of social features in Spotify, as well as in competing music streaming apps, that allow people to connect with one another.

Out of all existing music streaming apps in the market, Spotify is the only one with any social features - allowing friends to follow each other’s profiles and playlists, but that’s where the social aspect ends.

Users are unable to share their activities to their friends and as a result, many resort to using third-party social media apps such as Instagram and Twitter to simply share their activities.

After analysing and researching on the various user groups of the existing Spotify app, as well as understanding the main problem at hand, we came up with a solution - Spotify Social.

This proposed solution adds a much needed social aspect to the Spotify listening experience, allowing friends to interact with one another in a more convenient way.

However, the goal is not to turn Spotify into a generic social media platform like Instagram or Facebook, with countless notifications and posts.

Instead, the goal is also to be more like Google Maps or Yelp - allowing users to easily see what the community thinks of a certain song, album, or artist, on top of bringing friends closer to one another.
