Empowering a brand's universe by conveying the right messages through the illustration system
Malo is an application offering unique support for new parents. Its main mission is to ensure that every parent experiences harmonious parenthood by taking care of their own health and that of their children on a daily basis.

Creation of a unique character concept for the Malo brand

The mascot of the Malo universe was created to allow any parent to identify with the illustrated situations.
It is a blend of a human individual and a fictional creature, allowing it to break free from certain representation constraints: this character can be both a man and a woman. Its skin color adapts only to the background used, and its body conforms to no norms imposed by our "real world" (heart-shaped face, four-fingered hands, etc.). Nevertheless, its silhouette and attitude resemble those of a human.
The head and upper body were drawn based on a heart, echoing both health and the love that prevails within a family.
Representing all individuals involved in the journey of parenthood

Various types of individuals were derived from the "Parent" character, referring to those who can play a role in the Malo universe. They differ in details such as their size, clothing, or the shape of their faces.
A modular set of illustrations for endless adaptability to the team's needs

Each character can be depicted facing forward or in profile, with various positions and facial expressions. Consequently, the compositions can be diverse, allowing every user of the illustration system to unleash their imagination freely
Anatomy

Each character has a different anatomy. It was important to convey this technical information to the team so that they could evolve the illustration system over time.

Design principles

Precise graphic choices were reused in each illustration, reinforcing coherence among them. Line thickness, the addition of shadows, and clothing color are examples of these graphic decisions.

Color combinations were designed so that the drawings can always adapt to the background used.​​​​​​​
A Figma file ready to use for creating your own illustrations

The "Illustration system" file brings together all available components. It was created to allow anyone to compose images effortlessly. Just open Figma, activate the library, and let creativity flow!

Infinite freedom in composing illustrations for Malo

Once the illustration system is activated, users can retrieve a character, an element, or any other illustration to customize it using the designated component panel. Color, facial expression, upper body position—everything is easily modifiable.
Beyond characters: the expansion of the Malo universe with its constituent objects

I designed several objects and micro-illustrations to enrich the Malo universe and fuel the illustration system. These elements were listed in advance by the team to replace the old illustrations on the application and various communication materials.
Guidelines for evolving the project

A document was established to help the Malo team understand the new universe and reproduce illustrations in the future.
