Tao Ju Ceramic Studio - Daily Tasks
Nick, the owner of Tao Ju ceramic studio, is a third-generation ceramic artist from Yingge, Taiwan. He aims to transform traditional factories into knowledge-based, small-batch, and brand-focused production. The following will showcase my daily work at Tao Ju and the projects I have been involved in.
Most of my time is spent on refining, joining, and sponging, such as joining the handle to the cup. Here is a 3.5cm necklace where I have to trim the mold seams and ensure the holes are the perfect size and round.
Sometimes we collaborate with artists to help them produce small-scale productions. Here is the vessel-shaped trophy for the Design Award. The artist wants us to use cobalt oxide to paint brushstrokes on the body.
In most cases, we use an electric kiln for firing. However, on occasion, when dealing with larger products or the need for reduction firing, we opt for a gas kiln. Sometimes, I assist in loading kilns and help with cleaning. The cup shown in the image below is one of the designs I frequently work on.
In addition to the above tasks, we also collaborate with various clients to fulfill different techniques as their requirements, such as applying gold luster, stenciling, and applying decal, and so on.
When there's a need for color adjustments, I use base glazes to mix with color powders to achieve the desired by the customers. If there's a requirement for glazing, I also assist the glazing team in completing the task. (dipping glaze, spraying glaze)
Annual Ceramic Event- Yingge Open House "Yinggooo"
Participated in the “Yinggooo, Yingge Open House” as part of a collaborative effort with other ceramic factories and stores to revive the local industry. I managed communication with local vendors and designers, collected participation data, surveyed workshop contents, workshop teaching ,and supported event reception staff on the day of the event and successfully contributed to the organization and execution of the first open house for the historic street and traditional factories, allowing the public to engage closely with ceramics.

A-Nan Handmade ceramic studio -  Hand building Class
I had the opportunity to teach a beginner hand-building course at A-Nan Handmade Studio. During this course, students creating fruit sprite ceramic jars and tableware. I assisted in teaching them how to make these pieces.
