Para a concepção desta ilustração, meu desejo era retratar o momento em que ela vivia no ano de 1939, quando as cidades sofriam bombardeios frequentes devido à 2ª Guerra Mundial. No entanto, como vemos no livro, ela consegue escapar da triste realidade ao se refugiar nas histórias presentes nos livros."
EN: "This is a personal project to create the illustration for the cover of the book 'The Book Thief'. For the design of this illustration, my desire was to portray the moment she lived in the year 1939, when cities suffered frequent bombings due to the 2nd World War. However, as we see in the book, she manages to escape the sad reality by taking refuge in the stories present in the books."
