On the surface, the anywheel mobile app actually seems easy to use. There was a clear CTA upon signing in which allowed for prompt unlocking of their bicycles. The information found in the various pages were also coherent and clear.

However, upon further usage and testing of the app, several glaring issues were identified.

Anywheel suffers from common problems such as — Unnecessary Complexity, Clutter, and terrible User Onboarding. Qualities including clarity, and simplicity were missing, making the simple bike-sharing app feel more like a cluttered super-app with no clear hierarchy.

The Splash screen, though harmless, is also heavily flawed. It is an unskippable instruction screen that users have to look at for 5 seconds before being able to access the app. For an app that users might use for their daily commute, that extra 5 seconds can either be harmless or detrimental.

Additionally, the app design has not changed all that much since 2020, which makes it clearly deserving of a visual update.

Thus, the proposed UI redesign of anywheel aims to tackle the four main problems - Complexity, Clutter, User Onboarding, Splash Screen - as well as provide a much a needed visual refresh to better fit its modern, yet playful brand identity.
