Design Achievement
The Negro Leagues Baseball Museum (NLBM) stands as the world’s sole museum dedicated to preserving and celebrating the rich history of African-American baseball and its profound impact on America’s social advancement. Established in 1990 and located in the heart of Kansas City, Missouri’s Historic 18th & Vine Jazz District, this privately funded, not-for-profit organization holds significant historical value. Situated just two blocks away from the Paseo YMCA, where Andrew “Rube” Foster founded the Negro National League in 1920, the museum houses a treasure trove of history and artifacts from the era before integration in Major League Baseball. The leagues played a crucial role in nurturing the careers of numerous legendary baseball stars, including Willie Mays, Ernie Banks, Jackie Robinson, Satchel Paige, Larry Doby, Roy Campanella, Minnie Minoso, and Hank Aaron. Recently, the XGD Studio at DLR Group designed a poster that features some of the renowned players who graced the Kansas City ball club, The Monarchs. These posters were provided to the museum to support their fundraising efforts for the construction of a new facility. This initiative aims to ensure that the legacy of the Negro Leagues and its pioneering athletes remains alive for generations to come.

Scope Summary
The XGD Studio at DLR Group has crafted illustrative posters that showcase prominent players from Monarch’s team history, featuring Buck O’Neil, Satchel Paige, Ernie Banks, Cool “Papa” Bell, and the legendary Jackie Robinson. The final print includes a comprehensive list of all players who have worn the Monarch’s uniform over time. The design elements incorporated in the posters have been purposefully chosen to facilitate the creation of branded merchandise such as mugs, t-shirts, buttons, patches, and tote bags. This strategic approach not only enhances the posters’ appeal but also allows for a diverse range of merchandise to be offered, expanding the potential reach and generating additional fundraising opportunities. DLR Group has played a pivotal role in providing experiential graphic design services for this project, further contributing to the preservation and celebration of the rich legacy of Monarch’s team history.
