Fulcro Typeface

Typography

FULCRO is a typeface designed based on the typographic inscriptions of the internal
courtyard of Urbino’s Palazzo Ducale: one of the highest exponents of Italian architecture during
the 1400’s and an outstanding example of typography design of that same period.
After careful research, analyses and comparison work of each individual letter, all details,
errors and variations found and studied were taken into consideration
for the design of the new typeface.

FULCRO highlights the work done on the serifs as well, by giving more presence to the serifs
and by creating a higher contrast between serifs and stems.
The typeface was designed for the exhibition "The Ducal Palace of Urbino - The fragments
and the whole" dedicated to the rediscovery of the palace through a contemporary reinterpretation.
