IKEA Malaysia Hari Raya Money Packet

Happy to share that I got a chance this year (2022) to design a Raya money packet for IKEA Malaysia! Of course, the design is simple. Why? Simplicity is a part of IKEA culture and values. A simple, straightforward, and down-to-earth way of being is part of our Småland heritage.

A little bit of info about Raya's money packet/envelope. (Malay: sampul duit raya) is a Malay adaptation of the Chinese red envelope custom. During the festival of Aidilfitri, Muslims in Malaysia, Brunei, Singapore, and Indonesia hand out money in envelopes to guests who visit their homes. The idea of handing out envelopes is based on the Islamic concept of zakat, where every Muslim is required to provide at least 2.5% of their wealth to the needy. However, Malays now hand out these envelopes during Aidilfitri not only to their poor guests but also to the middle class and to the upper class. The amount of money depends on how much the host can afford to give their guests.
