KUNOKAIKU is a US-based project that wants to pay homage to our ancestors through the creation of beautiful urns. Their main objective was to create a tangible item that represents the intangible, valuing death and the grief process. So, a discrete but design-forward product was needed. Each urn has the space for a candle; all of them are stackable, so they can also be used as a vase.
Futura´s main objective was to create an optimized packaging design that properly holds and protects each product. We wanted to create a very straightforward proposal that reflects the values of the brand and enhances the user's experience.
We created a box system with thermoformed cardboard that allows the structure to hold each element. We include the arrangement of the elements in the design to illustrate the use of the product. The studio came up with a line that guided us through the editorial proposals: "Complete what's missing". We explored this idea by using negative space and emptiness with images that create a kind atmosphere. Also, we kept a neutral palette to create a balance without being too loud.
