Huevos Dias! - 4x3 Ad
This was a fun ad for a new restaurant that opened in Brandenburg back in February 2021. It serves primarily Breakfast foods and Tacos with an obvious Mexican/Hispanic menu. They operate during breakfast (7:30 am) and to mid-afternoon (around 3 pm).
This was a 4 column (6.56 inches) by 3 inch ad, so about 2/3's the width of the page. Each newspaper page is 6 columns (9.89 inches) wide so this was a decent sized ad so it stood out on the page.
I did not know the owner well but many on the staff had familiarity with him because he operated another Mexican restaurant in the area. He seemed very friendly and sincere and wanted to operate a good business while keeping his customers happy. He seemed to be the right kind of businessman that did well but not at the expense of his patrons but instead in service to them.
I browsed some of their promotional images from the Instagram and Facebook pages as well as their website's landing page in order to have photos and graphics. I themed the ad to match the overall look of their web page (the greens, yellows, and white colors as well as the white brick background). I wanted to show both the restaurant (due to it's unique architectural look in our small town with the entry at the corner of the building) and balance that with some of their unique breakfast items. The restaurant is very easy to find due to the unique look of the building amongst the boring bricks and slabs of concrete in our area.
I had a pretty clean jpg of the logo so of course it had to be redrawn in vector form but it was an easy task. I REALLY like their logo and I wish I knew the designer who created it so I could complement them! It's simple and fun with the chicken head in the shape of an egg (and "huevos" is obviously Spanish for "eggs"). Genius!
This was a fun restaurant with a unique menu for my little country bumpkin area. There aren't any restaurants like it outside of the diversity in next metropolitan area (Louisville, KY). I was very happy to create an ad for their Grand Opening. It's not often when working on ads for a newspaper that you get a job that is so much fun to design. I smile just thinking about this one!
