Rum name and label design | Ahoy & Eduweb

The name of the rum and the design of the label were created for a competition organized for the Ahoy! community. Ahoy! is an online platform and a unique place for exchanging knowledge and organizing common projects and interesting meetings. The community consists of over 3,000 specialists in the tech & design industry. Ahoy! authors are the creators of Eduweb – a website with online courses.

Aim of the competition was coming up with a name for a pirate liquor, creating an elegant rum label design and experimenting with the shape of the label.

Since rum is traditionally associated with sailors and pirates, references to the sea (compass, stars) had to be included in the design. However, associations with science could not be forgotten, as the aim of the Ahoy! community is to exchange knowledge.

The label is kept in a modern, minimalist style. Its only decoration is a compass, also reminiscent of the Internet icon. The orange compass elements, pointing to the four cardinal directions, are taken from the Ahoy! logo.

The color scheme of the label should evoke associations not only with the platform, but also with other, more traditional rum labels, which are often designed in black and gold.
