'Wunderkammer' is german for 'chamber of curiosities' which is a word used to describe a room that contains a collection of notable objects. The objects I chose to collect are metal nails and screws, so this is what this project is based on.
I did not recreate the silhouette of nails, but the visual elements are all inspired by the sharp shape of them. My goal was to create a toolbox of shapes that can be used together with the photographs below. The photos are pretty complex, so I decided to work in black and white.
In order to 'glorify' this industrial metal stick, I built a scene that consists of reflective metal scrap. By stacking them together in different arrangements and pointing a harsh light onto it, I was able to make these photographs.
The catalogue showcases a wide variety of nails and screws, including their dimensions, name and the place where I found them. Some pages are filled with visual elements to break things up.
More about this project on my website.
