THE PARMIGIANO REGGIANO DESIGN CHALLENGE 2021*

The Project

In 2021 the Parmigiano Reggiano Commision in Italy opened entries for their annual kitchenware and furniture design contest inspired by portraying the roots of the italian cuisine all over the world through related products.

The Solution

Mexican and Italian cuisine share authenticity and deep engagement with it's culture and the piece intends to be a deep tribute to each nation and it's dishes.

Fungeo is an accessory to share in the table. Its organic surfaces allow to serve the traditional combination of oil and vinegar or any other accompaniment, in addition to serving ciabatta at the same time, focaccia or any other traditional italian bread. This process is a common practice of the traditional table of Italian cuisine. Transferring aesthetically and functionally the simplicity and fluidity of the fungi kingdom, belonging to a community without leaving it's individuality.

The construction of the piece resembles the construction of the artisanal artifacts of Mexican cuisine, commonly made of stone. We pay homage to these traditional finishes in plastic, which facilitates its production, its transportation as well as expanding its use and applications.

The pieces are built under the concepts of duality and contrast with their individual function creating a connection through human intervention, converting the user and their experience at the table as a fundamental element to give it its true value.

The connection with the cuisine became a guideline of design, therefore, taking into account the Mexican kitchens and Italian, so romantic, intimate and rich in culture, have propitiated innumerable exclusive experiences of immersion in them.
