This is a personal book cover illustration project inspired by the lyrics of the song Counting Stars by the American rock band OneRepublic. I aimed to idealize what the cover of a book would look like if the story told in the lyrics was a fantasy novel.

The song's lyrics represent a person dissatisfied with a worldly life focused on materialism and who reports in his daydream losing sleep while dreaming of a life where he will no longer count money, but will count stars.
To represent the abstraction described in the lyrics, I imagined the night itself being distracted by the lights while talking to the moon and lighting up with its brightness. I used the color placement created by the dark blue and yellow to create volume to the image and highlight the moon and stars lights.
At first, I thought of the composition as a painting or a horizontal poster, but considering the whole narrative of the lyrics, it came to my mind that it could easily be a romantic story, so I started to visualize the composition as a book cover.

A letra da música representa uma pessoa insatisfeita com a vida mundana focada no materialismo e que relata em seu devaneio perder o sono enquanto sonha com uma vida onde não contará mais dinheiro, mas sim contará estrelas.
Para representar a abstração descrita na letra, imaginei a própria noite se distraído com as luzes enquanto conversa com a lua e ilumina com o seu brilho. Utilizei a aposição de cores criada pelo azul escuro e o amarelo para criar volume à imagem e ressaltar as luzes da lua e das estrelas.
A princípio, pensei na composição como um quadro ou um poster horizontal, mas considerando toda a narrativa da letra da música, me veio em mente que poderia ser facilmente uma história romântica, então passei a visualizar a composição como uma capa de livro.
