Brand Identity and Covers
After eight years and 130 published titles, the Helikon Zsebkönyvek (Helikon Pocketbooks) series is still going strong and continues to delight book lovers in Hungary each month.
I designed each front and back cover and I did part of the prepress (e.g. the conversion of the work files to duotone), but the barcode and the back text were put on the cover by the publisher's graphic designers. A few times the colors had to be changed before going to press, so the published version may differ. Although the series started off with the very friendly price of HUF 999 forints per book — less than 3 euros at the time — the cost of publishing increased dramatically throughout the years and after the 60th title it had to be removed from the covers.

It was a fantastic opportunity all around and I am grateful for the trust I received from the team. It is also amazing to see how much work we put into this series.
For the sake of presentation, I switched the title on each cover to English, but of course the books were published in Hungarian. And one more thing: the smudge may look too much on screen, but the soft, uncoated paper of the covers absorbed the finer details in print.
