Spotify's ecosystem is made up of hundreds of thousands of playlists all across the world, making up what is called the Playlist Pyramid. If you're an artist with music on Spotify, getting playlisted and climbing the pyramid is a huge accomplishment!

Every song on Spotify has its own unique journey. In this video, we take a closer look at three songs in particular and how they made their way to pyramid paradise.

Here's a look at how we chose to conceptualize and represent our key elements!

There are hundreds of songs, embodied by spheres, seen throughout this video, so we knew our three hero songs had to stand out from the crowd.

We gave all of our hero songs their own color palette, calling on three of our badass animators to each tackle one of the songs in order to cater the energy to the vibe of the corresponding track and keep things fresh.

From seeing these songs being created to watching them navigate the playlist ecosystem, we wanted them to feel distinctive and eye-catching.

Similar to songs, the challenge was to come up with a design for playlists that could be retrofitted to hundreds of unique playlists found on Spotify, while still having some key functionalities and lookin' spiffy, of course.

We landed on a simple box design that could house the playlist artwork in its closed state, and then open like a drawer to reveal the many songs that make up a playlist on Spotify.

Playlist editors are real people all around the world who curate Spotify's editorial playlists, but we knew we weren't going to show actual people in this video. The solution: headphones!

These headphones are seen listening to and interacting with songs throughout the video, so we thought it would be fitting to give them some character in their movement. Because who wouldn't want to get paid to listen to music all day :D

Behold, in all its glory...the pyramid!

Made up of hundreds of individual playlists, this pyramid practically has its own gravitational pull. When songs are added or removed from playlists, their position on the pyramid follows suit.
