* * * Hidden gem near the Capital of Iceland * * *
Reykjanes peninsula has many interesting places and several natural wonders. In fact, one could easily spend a few years in Iceland and only visit interesting places on the Reykjanes peninsula.
Vigdísarvallavegur is a 20km (12.4 miles) long unpaved dirt-road south of the capital city of Iceland, Reykjavík. It follows a wide volcanic valley and leads through multiple old lava fields.
Not many locals know about this route, even though it is a beautiful natural retreat. The untouched area is a nice contrast to the nearby city of Hafnarfjörður and serves as a perfect environment for tourists and photographers who want to spend some hours in nature, but still want to be close to the capital.
