Awkwerrrd is a webcomic brand & creative company that celebrates malayali culture &
de-bunks stereotypes through humour. India's first Malayali comic that has created a niche space for a female-protagonist comicstrip that strikes a chord with all Malayalis, which was previously reserved mostly for Superheroes.
About the Brand
While at design school, I started illustrating my everyday life, addressing issues like patriarchy and inequality infusing humour and sarcasm into my work. The intent was to give a new lease to Kerala's comicstrip tradition amongst classics like 'Boban and Molly' and bringing multi-lingual comics to the forefront of India's comic space.
Using humour as a tool to find the funny in the mundane, Awkwerrrd has grown to become a popularly adored comicstrip with over 70K+ readers. Inspired by characters from real life, the wholesome narrative was gradually built across 170 comics over time.
Along with my team, we have designed a delightfully relatable line of apparel & products which have reached Malayalis (& non-malayalis) world-over.
Running successfully for the past 5 years, the company has been invited to various prestigious events in the creative industry like Comic-con India 2020, Young India Summit, MEC 2019, Kochi OnFleak, My Cup of Tea, Stella Maris CulturalFest 2020 and others.
