welcome to münsterland

welcome to münsterland
a selection of pictures, focused on the cultural, architectural and natural facets the münsterland region has to offer.
rieselfelder
once the so called rieselfelder were used as a drainage area for the sewage of the city of münster. now it's a bird reservoir, so flora and fauna can take over again. it's predestined for birdwatchers — my highlight was the pheasant for sure.
mühlenhof
historic half-timbered houses from all around the münsterland area were taken here to build a beautiful museum. It’s a place to dive into the old days & to learn how people once performed handcrafts like beekeeping, woodwork or baking.
moorschnucken
this small sheep breed has been used in the moorlands of Northern Germany for centuries. they are so perfectly adapted to the soft and wet grounds — they can easily walk through knee-deep waters and can free themselves from bog holes. we had the pleasure to spent a morning with several hundreds of these beautiful endangered animals.
botanical garden
around 8,000 plant species on five acres — from all around the world, like australia & new zealand, the alps, deserts or jungles. together with the several greenhouses which take up to 2,000 square meters they are used as research facility by the university of münster.
nordkirchen castle
in the early 1700s the foundation stone of the „westphalian versailles“ was set. nowadays this castle’s impressive architecture was the perfect film location for several projects — as it still sits in the middle of an island which is surrounded by wide parks & gardens.
