Bubble Witch 3 Adobe XD Interactive Storyboard

Bubble Witch 3 Interactive Storyboard done in Adobe XD.

Everything in Bubble Witch 3 starts with a script with a basic outline and dialogue for an adventure.

Once the narrative script is more or less ready I set to work adapting the story into an interactive storyboard. The earlier I could do this the earlier all members of the team could see what we were trying to build.
I did a basic setup from beginning to end using placeholder art assets and early concepts.  This was easily swappable in XD so as the art was being more finalised, we could easily replace one asset for another.
This is much easier than doing things in photoshop since one change was applied globally and we didn't have to manually update and asset for all 169 slides.

This also helps for re-writes in the script as changes happen often and this quick way of working helps keep things up to date.
We were able to play and preview the storyboard on device to get a close approximation of how things would feel especially with the “choose your own adventure” aspects of our narrative.
Because it was also on device, this was something we could easily send to play test cloud to get early feedback from our players.  This feedback was valuable in the early parts of production because we could test general appeal of the narrative, also if it was understandable even before the game was being built.  This feedback helped pinpoint confusing or unclear moments in our narrative.
The outcome: Overall the feedback from the play test was positive! Even if it was from a small pool of players, hearing positive feedback from our players so early in the development was a morale boost and helped the team have confidence in what they were building and to know that we were starting off in a good direction.
