Highlight Reel from the 2022 RWBRFC Sausage & Cider Festival
Held on a sunny Saturday in May, an enthusiastic crowd descended on Royal Wootton Bassett Rugby Club to enjoy a range of the very best ciders, gourmet sausages, cider-fuelled music, and three exciting rugby matches.
I arrived early in the morning and had the absolute pleasure of wandering around the festival bothering people with my camera.
The festival - and the club in general - is run by an enthusiastic army of volunteers and it was a pleasure to count myself among them. This became a theme of the video generally - capturing behind the scenes vignettes of everyone who works hard each year to put on these events, and I really tried to reflect that in the video.
The day kicked off with an early-bird fixture between Supermarine Ladies and REME Ladies. This was followed by the popular McCue Cup - a celebratory rugby match between REME Training Battalion and a RWBRFC President’s XV. Following the rugby, the crowd welcomed Swindon's premier indie covers band Penfold.
By the end of a long, sunny Saturday I'd captured a huge amount of footage; and one of the most difficult tasks was trying to condense it all down into a 9-minute video!
The video was filmed on an iPhone 13 Max Pro with a SmallRig Camera Cage. It was edited in Adobe Premiere Pro and After Effects and makes use of Peter Mckinnon's 'Kodak Killer' Cine LUT, which I like to use to make iPhone footage look more cinematic.
I had also been involved in the event by writing and designing the festival programme. This 32-page A5 programme featured match previews, team lists, player profiles and a helpful itinerary of events planned for the day.
