Short Film "The Sad Figure"
Illustrations I made for the scenery and prop in the short film "A Triste Figura" (2018), a film in which, in addition to illustration, I acted as co-art director and extra.
According to the script, Maria, the film's protagonist, is a girl who draws; borrows father's pen; in addition to questioning his father about his mother's absence and also he is not afraid of the mysterious character.
Emphasizing this information, I created and produced a series of illustrations, bringing to this work a visual narrative of an ordinary teenager who likes to draw since she was little, that there is a very strong bond between her and her mother, and leaving the public's imagination free to think about who her mother was and what she did.
That's why, when I found a beautiful painting on the filming set, I reinterpreted it with the "trace of Maria", to suggest that that painting was probably painted by her mother. And around it, illustrations of the two together at different stages of their lives.
I gave preference to the use of pink and blue colors, the character's color palette. The materials used for the drawings were: colored pencils, felt-tip pen, ballpoint pens, legal paper, recycled legal paper, water, brush and coffee grounds. The trace and quality of the material paper varies, "showing" the passage of time. And Photoshop was used to retouch the illustrations to show in my portfolio, through digital means, the vivacity and vibrancy of the colors that are in the physical material.

Drawings "of Maria" made when she was little and her evolution. She is always accompanied by her mother, even if she is still "inside the belly" of the person who gave her life.
