How might we increase the interactions between youths and elderly
in Waterloo Centre during after-work hours to increase
social activity in the under-utilised public space?

Solution
The solution we proposed was a flea market in the form of a vending machine, which we named The Giving Tree, where people might put their items that they no longer needed up for sale. We aimed to tap on people's intrinsic curiosity and desire to buy and sell items. We also designed an accompanying smartphone application named The Tree Market for buyers and sellers to connect. By placing it in the middle of the open space at Artsplace @ Waterloo Centre (AWC), we plan to attract passers-by of all ages, on their way to Waterloo Centre, through its unique appearance and attractive lights.
