Costa Rica
Costa Rica is a country located in Central America that is ranked as one of the most visited international destinations. One of their main sources of income is tourism, especially for its favorite vacationing spots. It is a democratic and peaceful country and it has not had an army since the year 1948. The aim for this project was to design a t-shirt and poster for International Year 2021. For this year's country, Costa Rica was chosen as the international country.
The Concept
For the poster's design, I was going for very tropical and treasury visuals. I wanted the viewers to feel like they would be walking into paradise while seeing this poster. For a place this beautiful, it was necessary to capture the beauty of the country with just one image. You have beautiful sunsets and a beach in the background with tropical plants in the foreground which shows the diversity of the land. To top everything off, I added a paper texture to captivate that treasure map feel with a map of the country glowing through the beautiful view.
For the t-shirt's design, I wanted to stray away from the complex poster design to give each the t-shirt a simplified design while keeping a unique feel for each medium. While designing this, I decided to use Costa Rica's flag colors which are red, white, and blue. I started out with COSTA outlined and RICA solid, but I quickly changed for legibility purposes on a t-shirt. It didn't quite fit right with my overall composition of the design. The idea for the shirt is the ocean's waving through the horizon featuring a sunset. in the background. I made sure to loop the end of the waves with the right side of the sun because these two elements go hand-in-hand together, just like my poster.
