New Starter's Welcome Pack

It has never been easy to onboard new team members, especially within a global organisation working within a remote-first culture.

A positive employee onboarding process can improve team retention by 82% or more, and increase productivity by up to 70%.

So during the pandemic, I developed a concept for a new starter's Welcome Pack to improve our employee onboarding experience, introducing our company culture, values and behaviours and generate excitement before their first day with us.
At the heart of the new onboarding process is a Welcome Box which would be sent to the employee's home shortly before their first day. The box is fully branded, printed full-colour to the inside and outside on heavyweight 2100mic Folding Box Board.
Upon opening, the new starter discovers an ‘Inner Box’. Inside the Inner Box, there is a selection of branded gifts, clothing, lanyard and office stationery.

Underneath the Inner Box is the new starter’s laptop, keyboard, mouse and other small peripherals, personalised for the employee's role and collated by the IT department. Larger peripherals such as computer screens are packaged separately.
The Inner Box also contains a tri-fold gusseted folder designed to hold all paperwork required for the New Starter, including a range of staff guides.

A more substantial, printed New Starter Guide would also be included. This would cover any information the New Starter needs to know which is unlikely to change in the short term. QR codes link to additional information or downloadable digital assets.
Proof of concept

To help obtain agreements and confirm budget allocations from each involved department, I produced a full-sized prototype of the Welcome Pack to demonstrate the concept to key stakeholders.
