In 2020, I developed a passion project for a fictional ice cream brand as part of my practice as a budding graphic designer. While I'm quite proud of my work, I was so new back then and felt I could do something better. This year, I thought I would revisit this brand and do a brand refresh. Looking back, the reason this refresh was done was because I feel like I've grown a lot as a designer. So I felt a little disconnect with the original design, specifically with its colors. It also seems to cater to a more sophisticated market, rather than its young, creative, and spontaneous audience.
Brand Overview:
Love and artistry is at the heart of The Victorian Creamery.
The Victorian Creamery is a Manila-based family start-up concept that takes pride in its handcrafted, homemade ice cream. It is a heavily ingredients-based creamery, which gives usual ice cream flavors a fun, artisanal flair that is sure to delight one's taste buds. Starting off from grocery ingredients and concocted in a small kitchen, it now sources its fine ingredients from the Philippines and Asia. The name is derived from Victoria--a classic name.
The Challenge:
Refresh the brand's identity that balances elegance, playfulness, and artisanal.
The Solution:
There was a disconnect with the strong white packaging and the pink and brown color palette it had back then. The redesign was based off of the brand's existing packaging, since it is its strongest asset. Thus, the use of pure white was integrated into the brand's overall visual identity. Even though it's a basic color, it accentuates a lot of the brand's bold graphic elements and photography. It is accompanied by black as secondary color, and (a more vibrant) pink as accent color.
