Newton Heath LYR F.C. Plaque

In early 2016, I contacted various organisations, including but not limited to Manchester Council, Manchester United Football Club, The National Football Museum and The English Football Association if they could commission a new red plaque that had been missing/stolen prior to Moston High School being demolished in 2000.

Subsequent to my efforts, I faced a barrage of email rejections and silence from the people and organisations with whom I had contacted, and so I decided to take matters into my own hands.

Using an engraving company called Signomatic, I designed an Aluminium red plaque. Unfortunately, Signomatic did not provide spherical plaques at that time and so I opted for a 500mm x 200mm rectangular one instead. I acquired the Manchester Council PNG logo from the Internet and used it within the plaque to make it look authentic and official.

The cost of this plaque came to just over £68.00 (including P&P) and paid for at my own expense. It was then sent to the current address of the former site; Fujitsu on Northampton Road, Manchester, M40 5BP.

Prior to its arrival, I requested permission to have the plaque erected at the exact location where the football ground resided. Permission was eventually granted and when it arrived, it was erected by staff.

I visited the site in August 2016 and July 2019. During my initial visit to the site, I felt an immense feeling of pride and accomplishment.

Despite my efforts, I was unable to alter the following entry "A red plaque was attached to one of the school's walls, marking the location of the old stadium, but it was stolen and not replaced" on the North Road Manchester Wikipedia page under Present.

The plaque I had created remains to this very day on the wall it was placed on and I hope it remains there for decades to come, as such a significant location of footballing history should always be honoured and remembered.

In 2019, Google's Street View visited the exact location for the very first time. However, due to its commercial nature, it is obscured from view. Thankfully, it is still visible from distant and certain angles — https://goo.gl/maps/fQiEsX2JxmANoazr7.
