Eos and Tithonus (with love and regret)

This sticker illustrated the story of Eos and mortal Tithonus. Eos was a goddess of the dawn who fell in love with the beautiful mortal Tithonus. She knew that he, being mortal, would someday die. She begged Zeus to grant him immortality.

The gift was given. He had eternal life, but not eternal youth. So day by day he grew older and eventually he began to suffer. But "The Gods themselves cannot recall their gifts."

Eventually Zeus showed mercy and Tithonus was transformed into a cricket to end his suffering. Now you can hear a certain sorrow in the cricket's cry.

IMAGE: The character I true was "Eos" and in her hand you can see a sad little cricket. I posted the original digital image and two variants of the image that were printed as stickers.

The phrase "MEA CULPA" translates to "through my own fault," and is an expression of the Eos' regret.
