Zirka is a main football team of the Ukrainian city of Kropyvnytskyi with the population of more than 200,000 inhabitants. Several years ago it used to play in the Ukrainian Premier League, but now due to the financial problems it is an amateur team. Nevertheless, its badge is a problem for the Ukrainian football because it is too overfilled with different unnecessary elements, such as the ball, the gradients and many colors, while the club identity uses only yellow and red.
The club's name is translated from Ukrainian as a star, so I decided to make a badge with a clear and original symbol of star. Classic 5-shaped star is prohibited in Ukraine because it was used by banned in the country Communist party; 6-shaped star refers to the Jews while this club doesn't belong to them. So I decided to make a combined shield made of a 7-shaped star on top and of a heptagon on bottom. The main star symbol is placed on the top of the badge like the real stars are on the top: in the sky. Zirka is one of the oldest football clubs in Ukraine, so I placed the reference to the year of its founding to the bottom into the shape of a rhomb. Club name is placed in the center of the badge. In total, my badge consists of only two colors that are basic for FC Zirka, so it can be easily recolored for fans merchandising.
I've decigned three variants of the kits: the first two refer to the shape of the badge and include classic 5-shaped stars pattern on the bottom. The third kit refers to the night sky fulfilled of stars and galaxies.
In addition, I designed a font named Vympel due to its shape (vympel is a Ukrainian word referring to the flag of a special cornered shape), parallel to the lines included in the badge to make the numbers easily branded by the minimalistic star logo on the kits.
That is how my badge would look in the broadcast.
