I wanted to paint a personal 'happiness project'. Not just in terms of facial expressions, but also the composition of the piece, the colours used, and the kind of background. I wanted something that showcases different aspects of what happiness means to me. It is not just about people with big smiles. Sometimes, the happiest amongst us move silently, but confidently. Keeping this in mind, I set out to capture feelings of confidence, contentedness, security and calm; in essence, feelings which make up happiness.

Goal

To paint happy, healthy and confident girls. Stylish girls, who know their worth and move with grace.

Process

I enjoy capturing and celebrating femininity through my art works. For this project I wanted to paint real life women. I shortlisted pictures of female influencers I admire on Instagram and filtered through their feed to pick portraits that match the vibe of my 'happiness project'.

For the art work itself, I adopted a slightly minimalist approach. I wanted the background to come in sharp contrast with the subject. So I decided to paint render these lovely women in grey tones with a sharp happy yellow background.
