Gender is a social construct but the society from which the concept is derived from is imminently patriarch. Femininity in itself has been a complex notion since ages, and when the idea of this gender interacts with the politics of class, a more complicated and conflicted notion arises. This Photostory (CONFLICTED FEMININITY OF THE UNDERPRIVILEGED) aims to establish the struggle that women of the underprivileged community face in their day to day life. While on one hand, patriarchy is eminent in these communities and women are expected to follow certain code of conduct, on the other, survival makes them take up chores that are usually deemed to be masculine by the set gender roles of society. Hence, these women are conflicted in their own femininity. The inherent feminine degrades their position and at the same time their outward masculinity also refuses to empower them. Thus, these women are left in a never-ending conflict- a conflict of their own femininity.
