Final Material Investigation
Ink drawing is a classic art form that lends itself to both sensitivity and boldness. Ink properties can vary greatly in terms of thickness, colour, flow, and even permanence. It is also waterproof.
Substrate Investigation
As ink drop into water, it will move randomly in the water and expand slowly. I was interested in those randomly made patterns, so it give me an idea to capture it.

Experiment Working
Initial Design For Apparatus
Initially I used the top part of the plastic bottle combined with a pingpang ball on top as a shunt device that allows ink to flow through the curvy surface and separate into different tributaries. However, it didn't separate ink evenly through the test. In the test run, the ink often flows through one way,  maximally, it can only be separated into three tributaries. As a result, the ink dropping area and the patterns it made was quite limited. Moreover, the initial container for the water was too small, it can not fit the whole paper in. Also, since the two timber on the side can not support the weight of the shunt device, it's pulling the timber into the middle, I am going to change a stronger base for the timber to stand stably.
Final Apparatus
In order to solve the problem from the first apparatus, I test the bottom of plastic bottle as the shunt device. The five grids on the bottom allows the ink to flows through, in doing so, it can successfully separate the ink into five tributaries and dropping into different point. For the container problem, I changed to a 7.5 L container which is big enough to fit the calligraphy paper in. In order to enhance the stability, I used an 600mm*600mm Jigsaw Mat as the base and glue the timber beams into certain point, so that it won't be pulled by the shunt device.
