I created a series of roller dance girls as a tribute to the iconic Venice beach roller dancing gatherings where thousands of people in the 70’s and 80’s came to the area known as “The Skating Capital of the World”. People were attracted to the feeling of freedom, community, and happiness there created by the music, skating, and dance. In the 90’s came police conflicts, a destruction of the skating dance area, other restrictions, and the large gatherings were eventually eliminated. With the skating area now reduced, a much smaller community still survives with the help of social media.
