In the guts of Dhobi Ghat...

In the guts of Dhobi Ghat...

Located in Mumbai, this 140 years old human powered open air laundromat is a organized caos that take care of almost half a million pieces of clothing per day.
This is only possible due to the hard work of almost 500 people (Dhobis) that live and work in Dhobi Ghat.
Walking inside this maze of narrow streets i was able to observe a city inside the city, a complex system where everyone has is own part in the process...
From the one that collects the dirty clothes to the one that irons, it´s kind of a ritual to ensure the cleaned clothing is delivered.
Dhobi Ghat washes almost all the clothing of every hospital or hotel in Mumbai, and they proudly say that every piece is returned to his rightfull owner by the end of the day.
